Ingredients:
- 1 Rack of Hickory Nut Gap St. Louis Style Ribs (cut into individual ribs)
- 2 tbsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tbsp Kosher Salt
- 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp Chinese Five Spice (homemade recipe below)
- ¼ cup Hoisin Sauce
- ¼ cup Soy Sauce
- ¼ cup Water
- 2 tbsp Honey
- 1 Piece of Ginger (2” grated)
- 3 Cloves of Garlic (grated)
- 3 Green Onions
- 3 tbsp Canola Oil
- 1.5 cups Water
Chinese Five Spice (makes about ¼ cup):
- 1 tsp Cinnamon Powder
- 1.5 tsp Fennel Seeds (ground)
- 5 Whole Star Anise (ground)
- 1 tbsp Sichuan Peppercorns (ground)
- 1 tsp Cloves (ground)
LET’S GET COOKING!
Prepare the Sauce
- In a small saucepan, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, ¼ cup water, honey, and 1 tsp of the Chinese five spice.
- Add grated ginger, green onion, and garlic.
- Simmer for about 5 minutes.
- Set aside until ribs are cooked.
Season and Brown the Ribs
- Cut ribs individually.
- Season ribs all over with salt and 1 tbsp of the Chinese 5 spice.
